I got my first Jeep last spring. Its a 1992, 2 door, 4 liter, manual, 6.5" lift with 33 inch tires, 10,000 lb winch, smittybuilt bumpers. Its been broken most of the summer. You see I don't know anything about jeeps, or vehicles in general. I chose to buy an old jeep for two reasons. One being, I have always driven boring economical cars...blah. I've never had anything fun, so I figured a jeep would be ideal for doing fun things. Reason two, though I know nothing about vehicles I want to learn. So I figured what better teacher than an old broken/breaking vehicle. My first project was to replace the harmonic balancer because it was scraping against the timing chain cover. I bought the right tool and everything but I managed to break it off...instead of pull it off So I had a large hunk of cast Iron stuck to my crank shaft...big mess I eventually got it off, and I managed to replace the timing chain too. Now I just have to re install the oil pan, alternator, replace power steering pump pulley, replace water pump, and then I will be back in business. For a short while at least. Its a manual and the transmission gets so hot I have to wear shorts when I drive it So I am going to attempt to replace the transmission and clutch as well. I'm obviously in way over my head, but i'm loving it. It has given me an excuse to buy all sorts of wonderful tools When I have it running I hope to find some good people who can show me the ropes for wheeling.
