Just a feeler to see who may be interested in this. K5 proposed this and I agree that it is an excellent opportunity to develop a positive relationship with the SRD in our area and also clean up some of the rediculous amounts of junk and garbage that have accumulated on some of the more popular wheeling spots.
I'm thinking we could do part of Tower Rd, or possibly down by the Horse crossing near the start of the trail up in Abasand.
This is something that can be decided upon after discussion with the SRD, these are just ideas.
Vote in the poll, and put any comments or suggestions in this thread.

Ya I'm very interested and think its a great idea but it would have to be when I'm not on shift and possibly if people are interested we could even do both abasand and tower rd.

What a great idea. I have thought of proposing this myself. I have a small trailer, saws, whatever we need to get r' done. Count me in!

I'd be in for some thing like that too, my thought is if you contribute you get a voice at the table, ie your recognized as a being a stakeholder, pretty hard to have input if the powers that be don't know you exist. Secondly we all know we don't steal vehicles and burn them in the bush or throw our garbage around out there, however the public doesn't. A clean up event if properly publicised sets us apart from the idiots so that when people see the garbage they might not automatically think the answer is close down an area to those nasty 4 wheelers. But even if you don't get noticed publically, SRD knows.
A large group can actually do alot of good in one day.

Alright, it sounds like there is some interest. I am quite busy the next couple of weeks with my move, but I will speak with K5 and contact the SRD to set up a meeting. Once we have a conversation with them, we can work out when and where we want to do this. We can probably arrange to have a bbq afterwards at someones house or head to one of the pubs for a few refreshments as well.

I was in talking to SRD about land closures to the public and Tar sand leases and so on and they said they close things down for a number of reasons, one could be if people are partying and leaving a lot of garbage. I laughed and said really, then why is tower road rec area still open, its a dump. This lead into a discussion that they were looking to clean the Tower Road area up. I said I could muster a few souls for that and they were very keen.Whoever can come so much the better, but I think for them its a big plus just to have the public involved and especially as we represent an interest group. For us if we get any media attention it will be the good kind and if we attract any new members from that they will be the kind of people we want. All we really need is 3 or 4 rigs and people and you got a great photo op. They are shooting for some time in October. No pressure on anyone cause it sounds like they were already going to do it anyway, but this is an excellant opportunity to make some head way with SRD for the future and get the message out that we respect the environment, which of course we do cause that why were out there, I know I dont like seeing garbage everywhere and even less do I like wheeling in it. I also know in Grande Prairie because of the work TNT does in clean up and education they have a reputation as a good club with SRD, the police and the community. They all recognize our stickers. We can get some sponsors and have a Big Q for the participants when were done.
Anyway, something to discuss at the next wingnight. See you then. ;D

You know I've got contacts in radio and news papers in town. It's not guaranteed but I can talk to some and see what can be done. I don't think we need to wait until October to get it done. All we need to do is notifie SRD that we are headed out on a certain day to do a clean up. If there are enough rigs we could split up and do both. I'm game, just give me a coule weeks notice and I'll be there.
